Gym & Tonic at the New Vic
The John Godber Company and Theatre Royal Wakefield return to the New Vic with a brand new production of John Godber’s laugh-out-loud comedy Gym & Tonic from Tuesday 5 – Saturday 9 November.
Written and directed by John Godber OBE (Scary Bikers, Teechers, Up ‘n’ Under, Bouncers), Gym & Tonic is a hilarious comedy about trying to find a moment of calm in challenging times.
The story visits Scardale Hall Health Farm – a place with the best staff in Europe, happy to pamper you, massage you and put you through your paces. But when Don and Shirley arrive to fix their failing marriage, even the coolest therapists start to lose their karma. When the sanctuary is broken, it’s not only the clients who need to lay back and relax.
A four-strong cast will bring the comedy to life on the New Vic’s stage: Robert Angell (The Kings of Hull, The Empty Nesters’ Club) will play Keith and Ken, Stephanie Hackett (Dreamboats and Petticoats, Joan and Jimmy) will play Shirley and Chloe, Peter McMillan (Bouncers, Long Live The Kings of Hull) will play Don and Jacqueline Naylor (A Kind of Loving, The Railway Children) will play Gertrude Tate and Gemma.
John Godber OBE said: “I can’t wait to start working with this brilliant cast on Gym & Tonic. I’m excited to be bringing this play back at a time where wellness and mental health, particularly men’s, are of such societal importance. It will be a true hilarious comedy, but also an honest commentary on the state of our times.”
