Dan Hewitt – Boxing Behind the Gloves
Sports broadcaster and commentator Dan Hewitt is surging ahead in a career he has always dreamed of.
For the last 12 years Dan, of Stoke-on-Trent has been carefully crafting his boxing knowledge and broadcasting skills with the ambition to cover not just boxing bouts, but stories from sports stars worldwide.
After starting his own social media TV show, Dan developed “Boxing TV” which is now shown by Sports Channel Network Freeview channel 265 & FITE TV the World’s #1 streaming platform for combat sports.
Dan was also snapped up by Go Sports & Entertainment – the British Broadcast Division of the British and Irish Boxing Authority – and appointed head commentator in July.
This has already seen Dan commentate on bouts behind closed doors – due to the pandemic – which was shown live on TV via Sports Channel Network Channel 265 on Freeview/Youview.
“If you would have said to me around ten years ago I would be doing what I’m doing now I wouldn’t have believed any of it,” says Dan, who still works full time in media sales. “I have worked so, so hard with all of the commentating, producing and I absolutely love what I do. I have spoken to some really big names in boxing and there will be more to come – it’s unbelievable.”
Dan, who has boxed himself when he was younger and is familiar with the local boxing scene, adds: “I am better known in the World of boxing than I ever was when I fought. I love the sport and there are so many stories to share. We do things differently with Boxing TV and the interviews which I do.
“Sometimes people think boxers are macho and aggressive but they are not and in my interviews we bring the fighters to the fans and find out about their live’s and true life experiences. People might not realise this but a lot of boxers are very self conscious people and viewers really love it when we share their stories. We also have a laugh on screen and general chat. We have already shared amazing stories and that’s what makes what I do different.”

Dan’s Boxing TV show, which is in its ninth series, has seen Dan interview the likes of Amir Khan, Roy Jones Jr, Tyson Fury. former USA boxing referee Joe Cortez, plus Stoke-on-Trent’s very own Nathan Heaney – who was signed up by legendary boxing promoter Frank Warren earlier this year.
“I have some great friends in boxing including our very own Nathan Heaney,” says Dan. “Plus friends now all over the world and the stories they share with me are amazing. Boxers have so many tales to tell and they are sharing them with me via the TV channels – I can’t thank them enough.”
