The Card Review
Many headlines could describe The Card – a performance and production created by Claybody Theatre..but there is only one headline coming from Baba – and that is – An unforgettable production in a town which will NEVER forget the name…Denry Machin! Review by Baba’s Editor Sonya Farrall
The Arnold Bennett adaptation by the fabulous Deb McAndrew, is geniously staged in the restored ballroom at Fenton Town Hall.
The Card – the book and film – is magically brought to life with a strong cast and ensemble who you cannot take your eyes away from.
Gareth Cassidy is – as always – the true actor he is when playing Denry Machin alongside six other equally talented main members.
Throughout the play the audience is treated to a sea storm, a pony and cart ride and a journey along the Shropshire Canal – all of which are not assisted by fancy special affects – as they are not needed!
The only special effects and meaning coming out of the colourful story of the charismatic Denry, is his life story, his determination and vociferous ambition to do more.
Accompanied by live music and strong vocals throughout, this play brings you joy – just like when Denry reaches the pinnacle of his career.
Thank you Claybody Theatre and everybody involved in a production which will not be forgotten…
Baba say Five Stars – or is it Six?
The Card is at Fenton Town Hall until 9 July 2022. For tickets visit Claybody Theatre
