Summer walks with Uzair Hussain

Hanley-Park

Uzair Hussain is a masters student at Staffordshire University, studying Sports Journalism. Uzair has been taking part in work experience here at BabaBaboon. In his first guest blog, Uzair shares some ideas for summer walks in Stoke-on-Trent.

“NOW that the sun is shining on Stoke once again, people are looking to get back out into the open and enjoy the warmth and walking is a brilliant way of taking in the exercise you need while enjoying all the Summer has to offer.

There are many good spots around Stoke-on-Trent to walk around that provide the scenery and vibe that you most want. Hanley Park is an excellent choice to visit if you are looking for an open space with plenty of places to take a seat and relax. The Park also has tennis courts and a 3G football pitch which is open to members of the public, making it a perfect spot for families.

Hanley Park has a canal running through it which is another good place to walk along and on top of that there is a large children’s play area for families to use which is located just down the path from the car park at the park – not forgetting the fabulous cafe.

Central Forest Park is another must see location for a nice day out in the sun.

There is plenty of space for people wanting to find a quiet spot and set up a picnic at any point and in terms of taking in some exercise, the park boasts a beautiful lake providing a perfect loop to walk around.

There is a huge part of greenery to it providing a few places to walk and also a skate park for families.

For nature enthusiasts the park is home to a variety of birds including great crested grebes and coots and is open from 8am till dusk for those wanting to make the drive up and there is also disabled access available.

A shorter walk for those wanting something quick and easy is Northwood Park which is next to the athletics track Northwood Stadium.

This is great to walk around and has a football court for families to play on, to add something to the day out.

Like Central Forest, Northwood has the perk of having a car park for people wanting to travel to visit it.

There are so many great places to visit – especially during the summer months.”
