Benidorm Live at The Regent
Benidorm Live at The Regent Theatre works in so many ways!
From the off the audience is drawn into Darren Litten’s adaptation of the successful Brits-abroad sitcom where staff and guests at the Solana Hotel are not for the easily offended.
Comedy is rife throughout as posh couple Sophie (Tricia Adele-Turner) and Ben (Bradley Clarkson) embark on a two-night stay at the Solana under the management of the delightful Joyce Temple-Savage (Sherrie Hewson).
As Sophie and Ben adapt to their Benidorm surroundings hairdressers Kenneth (Tony Maudsley) and Liam (Adam Gillen) are simply superb in producing hilarity throughout – a comedy duo not to be missed.
Jake Canuso is everything you would expect from a Spanish barman – and more as Mateo – whilst Shelley Longworth as Sam is a perfect hostess with a profound vocal.
Amidst all of the humour a serious threat is upon the Solana Hotel and Joyce Temple-Savage and her staff make it their mission to detect undercover inspectors – which in itself brings laughter amongst the audience.
The plight to discover the inspectors continues as the sun sets over Benidorm. As night time enters the entertainment at Neptune’s Bar begins, and it’s fair to say when Liam graces the stage he is definitely not Unforgettable!
There is something quite special about Benidorm Live which this review cannot do justice – it was a pleasant surprise and joy to experience such a stellar performance by all.
Comment must also be made to the lighting and production staff behind the scenes as everything just simply worked in a true manner.
Benidorm Live was a pleasant surprise without a doubt! The Solana may be crumbling with 3 or 4 stars but Baba says 5!
