Toby Jones visits new Stoke-on-Trent venue The Dipping House
Highly acclaimed actor Toby Jones OBE visited new Stoke-on-Trent venue – The Dipping House – for a Claybody Theatre fundraiser event, sponsored by KMF.
Toby is Patron of the theatre company, who are known for creating new and ambitious drama from the unique cultural heritage and contemporary lives of the people of North Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent.
Toby was interviewed on stage for ‘An Audience With Toby Jones OBE’ by Deborah
McAndrew, Claybody Theatre’s Joint Artistic Director, where he gave insights into his illustrious career and the roles he has played on Saturday 17 February.
The award-winning actor, whose dad Freddie Jones was born in Longton, is known
for his affection for the Potteries, having played honorary graduate of Keele University and former kit-man for Stoke City Football Club, Neil Baldwin in the hit TV show, Marvellous.
Toby’s film credits include Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, Infamous and the Harry Potter series.
Television roles include: Lance in Dectorists, and DCS Dennis Hoban in The
Long Shadow. Most recently, Toby starred in the powerful ITV drama, Mr Bates vs
The Post Office, which tells the story of hundreds of sub-postmasters who were
falsely accused and convicted of theft, fraud and false accounting.
Music for the evening was provided by HOME TOGETHER – a jazz/pop trio from
Stoke-on-Trent: Oliver Pritchard-Jones – sax, Lucas Elliot- keys, Niamh Nolan –
singer.
Deborah said: “Toby Jones is very proud of his links to Stoke and has been the Patron of Claybody Theatre since he saw one of our shows in 2018. I thoroughly enjoyed interviewing my old friend, and we were delighted to be able to show Toby our amazing new venue – The Dipping House in Spode Works. We are working in collaboration with Stoke-on-Trent City Council and have exciting plans for this fantastic heritage space, with more events coming up in 2024.”
