Runners help charity’s mission to provide Beds for Kids

A TEAM of runners who took part in the Alton Towers 10K race have so far helped a local charity to raise thousands of pounds towards their ‘Beds for Kids’ campaign.

The eight members of the Emmaus North Staffs team all completed the challenging course at the popular theme park on Saturday 11 November.

Funds raised will go towards providing new bed kits costing approximately £175 each, which include a mattress, bedding and a bed.

“Everyone did very well on the day in taking on the Alton Towers 10K,” says Executive Lead of Emmaus North Staffs John Webbe.

“It was not the easiest of courses, but everyone dug deep and supported each other all the way round. I cannot thank everyone enough for the support and we are absolutely over the moon to have already raised more than £4,000.”

John added: “The target we set was to raise £5,000 between us – which would help us to provide around 30 brand new beds. We are not quite there yet, but donations have been continuing to come in after the race which has been great and really we hope to reach the target.”

The Emmaus North Staffs team included local businesses such as; Helen Bancroft-Morris Director of HBM Telemarketing, Matthew Tolley, Director of Hayo Energy and Sonya Farrall of PR & Media firm BabaBaboon who were joined by Executive Lead of Emmaus North Staffs, John Webbe, Trustee of Emmaus North Staffs and Managing Director of CRC Evans, Paul McShane, along with friends of the charity Jason Farrall, Ellie-Rose Morris and Vanessa van Bergen.

The charity’s ‘Beds for Kids’ is a campaign was launched in 2022, following increasing demand from local families who could not afford basic furniture for their homes.

In the last 12 months the charity have provided around 300 beds to families – some of which were brand new bed kits that included a bed, mattress and bedding.

John added: “It really is unbelievable just how many children are without a bed of their own, which can have a serious negative affect on anyone.

“Having very little sleep, or no sleep, can have a serious affect on all of us, and even more so the physical and mental development of a young child in their formative years. No child in modern Britain should be without their own bed.

“Beds for Kids is a constant campaign we run and  this will be continuing into 2024.”

As well as the Beds for Kids campaign, Emmaus North Staffs support more than 800 local households each year. The charity has a large store in the Potteries Centre, in Hanley as well as a Furniture and Home Charity Emporium, which is located in Etruria.
