Trentham RUFC appoint Fijian World Sevens Winner
Fijian Rugby Sevens star Apolosi Satala has been unveiled as the new Coach at Trentham Rugby.
Signing Apolosi for 2019/20 is a major coup for the New Inn Lane club as the experienced Apolosi has played for Fiji, in both 7s and the 15-a-side game, the British Army 7s team, Leeds, in the Championship and Premiership Gloucester.
Having watched from the side lines as his son joined the Trentham junior section, Apolosi has grown a desire to help Midlands 4 West (North) Trentham – spurning attention from larger clubs.
Club Captain Jay Turnock said: “Apolosi has an extremely impressive CV – one that has made him draw the attention of clubs bigger than us – but he was very clear about his desire to develop the existing senior players and the talented young players we have coming through our successful junior section. We have good players at Trentham – and exciting young players breaking through – and we are determined to show the new Coach what we’re about. He’s very keen for everyone to enjoy their rugby and hopefully this can help us lay the foundations for a really positive era at Trentham Rugby Club.”
Satala’s training sessions will take place every Thursday through pre-season and during the season. The Trentham 10s will host Stone for a development game on the 24 August and their first competitive outing is away at Gnosall on the 31st August.
