Charity Emmaus North Staffs are appealing for unwanted beds and mattresses to be donated to their Emmaus Furniture Mine store in Hanley.

The charity – which helps to support the most vulnerable in society, in particular those who have recently been homeless – are looking for 100 quality beds which can then be used to help scores of local families across North Staffs.

Both adult and children’s beds can be donated to their shop, Emmaus Furniture Mine, in the run up to Christmas and into the New Year.

Free collections can also be arranged for those unable to transport their unwanted beds to the Cannon Place store.

“We already have some beds but we need lots, lots more and we really want to reach our target of 100 beds being donated by 31 January 2020,” says John Webbe, Executive Lead of Emmaus North Staffs and manager of Emmaus Furniture Mine.

“Many local families have a house but not a home as they either have no beds to sleep on, or families are sharing a bed together. Not being able to get a decent nights’ sleep seriously affects your physical and mental health and the basic human right to have a bed badly undermines people’s lives and ability to function.”

John adds:If anyone is thinking of buying a new bed now, or in the January sales perhaps, and does not know what to do with their old one, if it’s still of good quality, then please let us know.

“Beds are such an important piece of furniture for anyone and over the next few months, if we could receive 100 beds, it will really help us to help others going into the start of a new year.”

Emmaus Furniture Mine is North Staffordshire’s largest reuse charity and is the social enterprise in which supporters of Emmaus North Staffs can learn employment skills as part of their journey away from homelessness.

John said: “Through our store we are able to recycle furniture and then sell at very affordable prices which all helps us as a charity to work with people who have been homeless.

“We all work really hard and pull together to enable good quality furniture going on sale to the public and we also work with various organisations too who may need furniture.”

Emmaus Furniture Mine is open to the public Monday to Saturday. Anyone who would like to donate to the Emmaus North Staffs “Donate your Bed” Campaign is asked to telephone 01782 846111 quoting BEDSFM. Emmaus-North-Staffs-van
