Tastes of the Continent to be served up by traders

A Continental feast is coming to Newcastle-under-Lyme for a four-day event this August.

Shoppers will have the chance to sample food and flavours from other cultures, as well as the opportunity to buy artisan craftwork and other unusual pieces at a continental market which will be situated near to Lancaster Building on High Street. The diverse food on offer will include Asian flavours such as Thai noodles, Gyros (kebab-style delicacies) from Greece, sweet and satisfying Baklava, rich freshly-ground coffee, Mediterranean olives and a variety of cheeses. There will also be a selection of artisan craft items available on the market.

continental-market-newcastle-under-lymeCllr. Stephen Sweeney, the Borough Council’s Cabinet member for finance and efficiency, said: “I’m delighted we are bringing this street market to our town centre for shoppers and residents to enjoy. It’s the perfect time of year to be able to sample these wonderful continental flavours – and enjoy them right here on our doorstep! The street market will have an array of delicious hot and cold food to spice up your day as well as speciality take-away delicacies you can enjoy at home. I really hope that everyone will make the most of the opportunity to enjoy the market and to support the traders who are bringing their top-quality fare here for us.”

The Council has brought in RR Events to run the market and Managing Director Tony Walsh, said: “Our team of staff and traders have been involved in markets across Europe for over 10 years. We are particularly proud of our Continental Street Market brand as we know the atmosphere that it brings to the towns and cities we visit. We want to thank the Council for working with us to help bring this brand new event to town and we hope the people of Newcastle-under-Lyme are as excited about it as we are!”

The market will run from Wednesday 7 August to Saturday 10 August and will be located near to Lancaster Building on High Street. The market will be open between 10am and 6pm each day and around 20 stalls are expected.

For safety reasons a road closure will be in place for the duration of the market.
