Hundreds of pupils from across Stoke-on-Trent will perform at the Victoria Hall for three concerts.

Eight hundred and fifty young people from 36 schools across Staffordshire, Stoke-on-Trent, Telford and Wrekin will take part in the annual Recorder Festival, organised by North West Midlands Music Education Hub, later this month.

The 2019 festival – which marks 21 years since the festival began – aims to celebrate recorder playing across the four areas, as well as giving Stoke-on-Trent’s young people the opportunity to perform in a prestigious venue.

Professional recorder player, Anna Bradburn, returns to Stoke-on-Trent as a guest performer and will be playing several pieces on her Elody – an electric recorder. She first played in the City Recorder Festival at the age of five and has been involved ever since. Three hundred talented singers from the City Music Service’s KS2 choirs and Training Choirs will also take to the stage for a special evening concert on Thursday 28 March entitled ‘A Night at the Musicals.’

Cabinet member for education and economy, Councillor Janine Bridges, said: “It’s brilliant the City Recorder Festival is returning to Stoke-on-Trent for its 21st year and that Anna is able to return – she is a real inspiration to all of our young people and proves the recorder is not just an instrument played during primary school years. The City Music Service provides many opportunities for our young people to get involved with music, which will be showcased in – “A Night at the Musicals” concerts. Music is a fantastic way for them to build confidence and meet new people – both of which are vital for children and young adults.”

The Recorder Festival concerts will take place on Wednesday 27 March and Thursday 28 March at 12.30pm. Tickets are available direct from the Regent Theatre Box Office or online at www.atgtickets.com, priced at £5 for adults and £2.50 for children.

‘A Night at the Musicals’ will take place on Thursday 28 March at 6.45pm. Tickets are available direct from the Regent Theatre Box Office or online at www.atgtickets.com, priced at £6.50 for adults, £5 for children, £18 for a family ticket.
