Dance spectacle Future Cargo parks in Newcastle-under-Lyme Town Centre
Newcastle-uner-Lyme High Street will have the unusual addition of a 40ft haulage truck parked up at the end of the market, creating a striking setting for the dance sci-fi performance piece, Future Cargo by Requardt & Rosenberg, presented by The Place and Appetite.
Future Cargo is the acclaimed outdoor show by Frauke Requardt and David Rosenbury and combines large-scale spectacle with surprising intimacy in a sci-fi dance phenomenon performed under the stars, where audiences wear headphones to connect them to the strange world and events inside the truck.
Appetite Director Gemma Thomas said: “We wanted to bring a big show to the centre of Newcastle, giving people this spectacle of an experience right on their doorsteps. Imagine this, you walk on to Newcastle’s High Street, there’s a 40ft lorry in front of you. You put some headphones on, take a seat and slowly the shutters rise up on the lorry transporting you temporarily to another world. The headphones are buzzing with music and you’re watching people dance in a lorry, wearing head to toe lycra silver suits on conveyor belts. Get a ticket and head along to this not to be missed amazing two nights. Why not make a night of it and enjoy all the wonderful bars and restaurants we have in town too. We love to make memorable moments for the area, it’s our tenth year doing so, and we hope this one will be one to top! We’d love you to join us.”
Newcastle Business Improvement District Manager Charlotte Pearce said: “When Appetite promise to deliver a spectacle, they really do! We’re excited to welcome something a little different from Future Cargo for what looks to be two evenings of out of this world performances in our town centre and really deliver a great evening out.”
Tickets to attend the shows, on at 7pm & 9pm on Friday 1 and Saturday 2 July only, can be purchased from the New Vic Box Office, online at newvictheatre.org.uk or by phoning 01782 717962. Book in advance to avoid disappoint. Doors open at 6.15pm for the first show and 8.30pm for the second and there will be food and drink vendors on site.
