Cristian Montano Receives Port Vale’s PFA Community Champion Award
Cristian Montano has been presented with the Professional Footballers Association (PFA) Community Champion Award in recognition of his hard work and support for the Port Vale Foundation Trust during the 2019/20 season.
The PFA Community Champion Award aims to raise awareness of the great support that PFA members provide to their club’s community activities during the season.
The award was presented by PVFC Head of Community Tom Sherratt who said: “Cristian has been a fantastic ambassador for Port Vale Football and has gone above and beyond in the community this season. He understands that his role as a footballer extends further than the 90 minutes on the pitch and has been an inspiration to so many of our participants, he has held careers talks with our half term attendees and has been an advocate in getting the older generation talking about their mental health.”
Tom added: “Recently, he has been in constant contact with us at the PVFC Foundation Trust during the pandemic and has been keen to help. He has made numerous donations of food and money to ensure we can continue the work in the community.”
On receiving the award, Cristian said: “I’m extremely proud that I’ve been recognised by the Foundation for the community work that I’ve done, but for me it’s an important part of being a footballer. I’m in a lucky position where I can use my job to inspire people and use my own experiences to connect with fans. Going out into the community also helps me to get to know the people who come and watch us every week at Vale Park and it has helps me to understand what the club means to them.”
