College student launches music career
A Level student, Luke Gilmore, or Luke Wonder as he’s known in the world of music, has launched his new single ‘Doesn’t Have to be Love’ featuring Finnish co-producer and co-mixer, Kyyhky.
The 18-year-old, who is a second year A Level Business, English Literature and Law student at Newcastle-under-Lyme College, started mixing music digitally at the age of just nine, borrowing his aunties laptop and experimenting on Garageband, a digital music creation platform, before eventually getting his own digital audio workstation where his love of producing music grew.
His recent tracks that were produced during the UK lockdown’s have been influenced by the likes of Blink 182, The 1975 and general bedroom-pop sounds, with his new single exploring the futility of teenage romances and how keeping relationships casual as a precaution can often mean missing out on something deeper.

Speaking on how his collaboration with Kyyhky came about, Luke, of Stafford, said: “I met Kyyhky through one of my favourite musician’s, Day Wave, an American indie rock band from Oakland, California when they played one of my demos during a livestream. From there we got in touch and ultimately ended up producing Doesn’t Have to be Love.”
Luke aspires to one day collaborate with Day Wave and the likes of Travis Barker from Blink 182. An admirer of the work of Michael Franks – an American contemporary jazz artist who still continues to produce music into his 70s – Luke hopes he can emulate his prolific nature throughout his own music career.
“In the future I would love to start performing local shows and keep producing new music, ideally in the hyper-pop genre as I love the lack of genre-based restraints.”
